The fighter

Its not the skills that matter, it does not matter that you have learnt the art of fighting or you are simply still struggling to predict the moves of your opponent. You loose attention for even a millisecond,  life is going to knock you flat out.
When you are younger, a lot younger, your parents coach you on the do’s and don’ts in the ring and help you learn the ropes. You are sort of fighting under their supervision, your sparring hasn't began yet. But with them out of the ring. Its all you. Don't be mistaken the opponent will not care that you are an amateur, a youngling etc. He’s out there to inflict the worst possible pain on you. Its upto you whether you bite the dust easily or put up a good fight before you go down.

Most of us are down and out by the time we reach our 30’s. Work pressure, health issues, personal life, family, children's education, financial issues, the list goes on and on. When we are knocked out, the majority of us stay down. Because we stay down, we eventually get comfortable and are knocked out of the tournament. Thats the majority of us. But there are those few, who fight it. Who make an effort every second to go against all odds and fight it. There are those few of us who try to make the most of what we do. We do it again and again, till we are immune to the blows that life throws at us.
Eventually we hit back. Now we are in command, we fight and fight till our opponent slows down but don't be mistaken. Slowing down is not the same as giving up. Enjoy that momentary feeling of victory before you realise your body has aged and its bruised. Its made the most of what it could, but now it will have to give up. From here on all that we can do is endure. Take the blows that life throws at us again and again, there is nothing we can do. But keep our spirits up, take punches with a smiling face, dodge some, duck on the rest of them. It does not get any worse, when your spirit wants to fight back, but you do not have any strength left in you, Its only your willpower that keeps you upright and at least in the state that you display some resistance to the world. But then the time comes when you cannot take anymore of it. The blows are consistent, your opponent never gives up and worst of all there is no way you can fight back. Its time for you to give up. But you wont. You are a fighter, you will not ket your opponent win. Instead you will pray that let the match get over, let the referee ring the bell, the lights go off and the people leave.
Leave you to your misery and your suffering as you feel yourself departing into a world away from these fights, away from the lights, away forever.
